Warnings From History

History is a powerful teacher, when we sit at her feet and observe, and learn.  It cannot be changed though the progressive (liberal) mindset seeks to change the facts of history.  People often look to history in an effort to figure out what is going on today.  This is not a novel approach in fact it is a Biblical approach for our lives.  No need to scratch your head, think about some Biblical texts for a moment.  Consider if you will the speech of Stephen just before he was stoned to death in Acts 7, he pointed to the history of Israel to show their unfaithfulness.

Then again we are certainly aware of Romans 15:4: “For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”  My Friends, the Biblical writings are at once both historical and inspired.  Only the Bible is both accurate and inspired when it comes to history.  The Biblical record has a purpose and we often dismiss it as merely historical, and some even dismiss it as true history.  Ever since the Garden of Eden men have been deceived by the lies’ of the Devil.  According to Satan, God really wants to deprive man of being God.  Satan’s subtle argument is that man can be (like) God.  Since then men have done what men do, they deny the Creator, yet as Romans 1:18-23 declares the unbelief of man leads him to make graven images of himself and animals degenerates to inexplicable sin described in the aforementiond verses.

So, when men seek to change Gods Word, even by adding one little word (in Eve’s case she added the word NOT), disaster follows.  No wonder God commands in three places, Deuteronomy, Proverbs, and Revelation not to add to, nor take away from His Word.  As a side note the first five Books of the Bible should be read and understood by looking at them as one book.  God gave a warning at the beginning, middle, and end of His Word, do you think it was an accident, or coincidence?  Keep in mind that the Word of God is written by over forty writers, as they were moved by God.

The Church is facing perilous times, as she has often since Jesus established her in A.D. 29.  What Jude wrote perhaps around A.D. 65 is still relevant today “Beloved, while I was making every effort to write to you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints”.  The truth Beloved has finality, it is not subject to change.
